1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
Wow. What can we take from that one verse? Put your name in the place of beloved then read on; let us love one another: for love is of God. This is instruction to us “the Christian”. If we are a Christian we are born of God and knoweth God, just as the verse explains. The Spirit of God is love. We are to love one another! How much better would our world be if we would just follow this one verse?
Our lesson today obviously is dealing about love. If you like what you have read so far, just keep reading I promise it is going to get even better. We have different examples of God’s love.
Now let’s look at verse eight. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. Here we have another reference about God being love. Do you see the example that is being set for us to follow? I know people in the world sometimes make it hard for us to love. A man that goes about a business with ill will, always does it badly. ~ Matthew Henry’s Commentary.
Verses 9 – 11 are very powerful verses. As you read them listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say to you heart. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. I am now searching for words to write what I want to say. Do you realize what kind of love God had in order to send Jesus to us? It was not that we loved God, but He loved us! HE sacrificed His only son so that we could be free. Herein is love. How can we not love one another based on the love that God has for us. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. This is the most powerful example of love that has ever been given.
As I close today’s post, I want you to take a moment and think about how good God is to us, then take a moment and think about how good you are to God.
God Bless!
