More from First John Chapter 4

1 John 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

Wow. What can we take from that one verse? Put your name in the place of beloved then read on; let us love one another: for love is of God. This is instruction to us “the Christian”.  If we are a Christian we are born of God and knoweth God, just as the verse explains.  The Spirit of God is love. We are to love one another! How much better would our world be if we would just follow this one verse?

Our lesson today obviously is dealing about love.   If you like what you have read so far, just keep reading I promise it is going to get even better. We have different examples of God’s love.

Now let’s look at verse eight. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. Here we have another reference about God being love. Do you see the example that is being set for us to follow? I know people in the world sometimes make it hard for us to love.  A man that goes about a business with ill will, always does it badly. ~ Matthew Henry’s Commentary.

Verses 9 – 11 are very powerful verses. As you read them listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say to you heart. 9In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. I am now searching for words to write what I want to say. Do you realize what kind of love God had in order to send Jesus to us? It was not that we loved God, but He loved us! HE sacrificed His only son so that we could be free.  Herein is love. How can we not love one another based on the love that God has for us.  Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.  This is the most powerful example of love that has ever been given.

As I close today’s post, I want you to take a moment and think about how good God is to us, then take a moment and think about how good you are to God.

God Bless!

It seems appropriate that these passages (indeed the whole epistle) on and about love would come by way of the very tender, loving heart of John. The greatest references to "love" in terms of quantity, are to be found in Psalms, Song of Solomon, the Gospel according to John, and ALL THREE of John's letters, particularly 1st John. The introduction to 1st John by Dr. Scofield says, [1st John is a family letter from the Father to His "little children" who are in the world. With the possible exception of the Song of Solomon, IT IS THE MOST INTIMATE OF THE INSPIRED WRITINGS. The world is viewed as without. The sin of a believer is treated as a child's offence against his Father, and is dealt with as a family matter (1 John 1:9; 2:1). The moral government of the universe is not in question. The child's sin as an offence against the law had been met in the Cross, and "Jesus Christ the righteous" is now his "Advocate with the Father." John's Gospel leads across the threshold of the Father's house; his first Epistle makes us at home there. A tender word is used for "children," teknia, "born ones," or "bairns." Paul is occupied with our public position as sons; John with our nearness as born-ones of the Father.] _________ That is a very profound and convicting last sentence you have there.

Brother, as I was looking for a way to close this post today, the last sentence was impressed upon my heart. == I do believe that it is for all of God's children. A message that needs to be delivered. I also believe it speaks to me as much as anyone. I, myself can never live up to the standard that I believe GOD deserves. That is just the imperfection of man. == I always look forward to comments from you. They have always had a way to make me stop and think. I want you to know that I feel honored to know that I have a brother in Christ who cares enough to comment as God gives direction. I appreciate you my brother in Christ. I pray God will always inspire you. May God Bless You!

Brother... I love the Word of God THROUGH John... the letters, the gospel. It was the Gospel according to John that completely flipped me around. Flipped me around to believe God so that I could come to repentance and that saving knowledge of the Holy God and Savior Jesus Christ. The words of John (or through John) have always spoken to me. But then, so does all the Bible, because...why? Because it is the Holy Spirit speaking. So I REALLY appreciate this study and postings of yours. I've got to be honest... I was glorying and joying in His Word and yours throughout the post. And then I came to the last sentence. And it made me bow my head in shame. It is an "enlarging" feeling and at the same time, a humbling feeling to know our Great God and Father. Thank you for YOUR heart! God Bless.

Your last sentence almost overwhelms the rest of your post. Well said. Woe is me!
